In the past two decades, the Argo Program has collected, processed, and distributed over two million vertical profiles of temperature and salinity from the upper two kilometers of the global ocean. A similar number of subsurface velocity observations near 1,000 dbar have also been collected. This paper recounts the history of the global Argo Program, from its aspiration arising out of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment, to the development and implementation of its instrumentation and telecommunication systems, and the various technical problems encountered. We describe the Argo data system and its quality control procedures, and the gradual changes in the vertical resolution and spatial coverage of Argo data from 1999 to 2019. The accuracies of the... |

A CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) device measures temperature and salinity versus pressure. This document is the Argo quality control manual for CTD and trajectory data. It describes two levels of quality control: - The first level is the real-time system that performs a set of agreed automatic checks. - The second level of quality control is the delayed-mode system. These quality control procedures are applied to the parameters JULD, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, PRES, TEMP, PSAL, and CNDC. |

In the context of the Bio-Argo program, a significant number of "new" biogeochemical variables are now candidate to be delivered through the Argo data stream. These variables are nitrate concentration, dissolved oxygen concentration, Chla concentration, backscattering coefficient, pH and radiometric data. Compared to the core Argo mission (P, T and 5), this diversity of new variable forces the community of biogeochemists to be very careful with respect to data management. Since three years, the community of biogeochemists thus actively participate to Argo data management meetings, in order to develop procedure for biogeochemical data compliant with Argo requirements regarding distribution policy, format, quality assessment and documentation. We illustrate... |

To perform data-centric research in environmental and earth sciences, researchers need effectively query, select and access data products from different research infrastructures. When providing observation data continuously, infrastructure is expected to create and deliver customised data products, e.g. for specific geo-regions, time durations or observation parameters, to enhance its ability to serve the research communities. Such kind of services often have time-critical requirements; some tasks need to be carried out within specific time windows when the data products are needed for real-time modelling or simulation frameworks. |

This document presents catalogue techniques used at network GDAC level to facilitate the discovery of platforms and data files. Some AtlantOS networks are organized as DAC-GDACs that continuously update a catalogue of metadata on observation datasets and platforms: • A DAC is a Data Assembly Centre operating at national or regional scale. It manages data and metadata for its area with a direct link to Scientifics and Operators. The DAC pushes observations to the network GDAC. • A GDAC is a Global Data Assembly Centre. It is designed for a global observation network such as Argo, OceanSITES, DBCP, EGO, Gosud, etc… The GDAC aggregates data and metadata of an observation network, in real-time and delayed mode, provided by DACs. |

The document describes the Quality of the Near Real Time (NRT) WAVES product delivered by the Copenicus Marine In Situ TAC. It applies to the INSITU_GLO_UV_NRT_OBSERVATIONS_013_048 product. It consists of four datasets each dedicated to near-surface currents measurements: - drifter: near-surface zonal and meridional raw velocities measured by drifting buoys, wind & wind stress components, surface temperature if available (see Table 1). These surface observations are part of the DBCP’s Global Drifter Program. - drifter_filt: near-surface zonal and meridional velocities and 3-days filtered velocities measured by drifting buoys. All the platforms are gathered together and concatenated in concatenated daily files. - radar_total: near-surface zonal and... |

The seven French agencies concerned by ocean research are developing together a strong capability in operational oceanography based on a triad including satellite altimetry (JASON), numerical modelling with assimilation (MERCATOR), and in-situ data (CORIOLIS). The CORIOLIS project aims to build a pre-operational structure to collect, validate and distribute ocean data (temperature/salinity profiles and currents) to the scientific community and modellers. The four goals of CORIOLIS are: • To build up a data management centre, part of the ARGO network for the GODAE experiment, able to provide quality-controlled data in real time and delay modes; • To contribute to ARGO floats deployment mainly in the Atlantic with about 300 floats during the 2001-2005... |
